A 12 year old student of the Cunupia Government Secondary School has been remanded in custody at St Michael’s School for Boys in Diego Martin, after he pleaded guilty to stabbing his schoolmate with a mathematical instrument.
The student appeared before Chaguanas Magistrate, Brambhanan Dubay, charged with the offence of unlawful assault on the girl who is a first form pupil.
The boy who spoke through his attorney said his intention was not to stab the girl, but to poke her since they were friends. However, the girl denied they were ever friends when the magistrate asked her about the relationship.
Magistrate Dubay in giving his ruling said he was concerned about the boy’s behavior and ordered a probation officer’s report on his progress.
The boy will reappear in court on October 31st.
