A 23-year-old Maraval man was shot dead near his home on Saturday morning.
According to reports, Gerel Solomon, of Beharrylal Trace, La Sieva, was returning home with a friend at around 8 am after liming on Ariapita Avenue when the incident occurred.
Police said Solomon and his friend were standing next to a veterinary clinic on La Sieva Road when the driver of a white Nissan station wagon pulled alongside them and the car’s occupants opened fire.
Solomon was shot several times while his friend escaped unhurt.
The driver of the car then drove away.
Solomon was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer and his body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James, where an autopsy is to be performed today.
Police said an arrest is imminent. Homicide detectives had not established a motive for Solomon’s murder up to late yesterday.
Investigations are continuing.
