Dr. Joan Latchman of the Seismic Research Centre, at the University of the West Indies says that renewed activity at the Kick em’ Jenny underwater volcano just off the north of Grenada presents no significant threat to coastal regions of neighboring islands.
As a consequence, there is no need to move people away from coastal settlements.
Speaking on the Power Breakfast show this morning, Dr. Latchman said the Research Centre will continue to monitor Kick em’ Jenny’s behavior . The volcano last erupted in 1949.
The Seismic Research Centre in a media release explained that an orange alert indicates a highly elevated level of seismic activity consistent with the small tremors which have been occurring over the past two weeks. Lutchman said they will keep abreast of the situation.
