Finance Secretary in the Tobago House of Assembly Joel Jack on Monday presented a budget estimate of $5.3 billion. Of that figure, he said there is recurrent expenditure totaling $3.209 billion. The Division of Health and Social Services received the biggest chunk of the THA budget with estimates of $793.9 million
He identified several key areas for development; among them were Tourism, Education, Housing and Human Capital Development.
The need to improve marketing to promote the island as tourism destination was among the focal points raised by Jack as Tourism is the major revenue earner for Tobago.
Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show this morning, he lamented the fact that Tobago has always received the minimum of the budget allocation. The sister isle is entitled to 4.9% of the national budget. This, he said is not sufficient to boost the development of the island.
