Last week Monday Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley demanded that he receive his salary for the period for which he was suspended from the Parliament.

Former Member of Parliament and Former Leader of Government Business in the House, Subash Panday has expressed support for the Prime Minister in his call for pay.

However he said that Dr. Rowley was presently in a position to amend the standing orders that govern the non-payment of salaries during an MP’s suspension.

Panday stated that he felt that standing orders were harsh and oppressive.

He went on to explain MP’s were only suspended from the business of the house.

He said that they were still expected to carry out the duties of caring for their constituents.

Panday also lamented the fact that Government MP’s were never suspended from Parliament.

The Former MP stated that a lot had to change with respect to how the Parliament was run.

He articulated that the Prime Minister should not just complain but do what was necessary to effect positive change.

Panday also disclosed that during his time in Parliament he had also been suspended by then Speaker of the House Occah Seepaul, he sought to remind those responsible for paying Dr. Rowley not to forget his cheque as well.
