President of the Prison Officers Association, Cerron Richards says his organization has been invited to hold discussions with the Ministry of National Security next week Tuesday.
This as the murder of two prison officers in October has fueled an ongoing debate over whether enough is being done to protect prison officers.
Mr. Richards and several other members of his Association yesterday went to the Canadian high Commission in Woodbrook seeking information on the possibility of Prison Officers being granted asylum on the basis of their lives being in danger.
Mr. Richards says he will accept the invitation but warns the Minister of National Security that he isn’t coming to hear more empty promises.
Mr. Richards says he believes the issue of prison officers’ safety is not being addressed as urgently as it should, by those with the authority to do something.
