A key indicator that the Attorney General is serious about prison reform, as he stated at the reform consultation at City Hall, would be Legislative Agenda to support those initiatives.
This is according to President of the Prisons Service Association Cerron Richards.
Richards sent a letter to the Attorney General Faris Al Rawi recently highlighting various concerns of the Association.
One major issued highlighted was a request for the proclamation of the electronic monitoring act, as to implement bail conditions to ease the prison population in particular at the remand yard.
In an interview with News Power Now this morning, Richards revealed that the Bill has passed in both houses and is now in the President’s domain.
He also called for the State to step up its efforts to protest officers.
Richards stated that there needed to be some word on the new Prison rules that went before Parliament.
Mr. Richards also disclosed that there was need for laws that targeted trafficking in prisons.
