LoopTT is reporting that the man who was found dead in a submerged vehicle yesterday morning in Ste Madeleine has been identified as 25-year-old Richard Beharry of Green Acres, San Fernando.
The body was identified by relatives at the scene of the incident.
The body was viewed by a district medical officer who observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Police officers were told that residents of the area heard a gunshot at around 10:00 pm on Sunday.
However, it was not until 12 hours later that the vehicle was found.
At about 10:45 am Sunday, a couple who had gone to the reservoir to retrieve a fish pot which they had left overnight observed the vehicle in the water and notified the police.
Beharry’s body was found in the back seat of the car.
With the aid of firefighters, the vehicle was pulled from the water.
Police reportedly found a brick which had been lodged against the accelerator pedal.
It is believed that Beharry was shot and killed, and the assailants lodged the brick on the gas pedal in an attempt to get rid of evidence.
An autopsy is expected to be performed today at the Forensic Science Center in St James to confirm the cause of death.
