An unbroken 39-run seventh wicket partnership between classy left-hander Darren Bravo and attacking all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has stalled a Cricket Australia Eleven from pitching the touring West Indies out for a meagre score in their tour-opening match in Australia.

On what was a rain-affected first day’s play in the scheduled four-day match that warms the Windies up for the log of three Test matches, the Caribbean side closed at 6 wickets lost for 154 runs.

Bravo who came in at the fall of opener Rajindra Chandrika with WEst Indies on 32 has batted through 135 balls for his 46 runs which include six fours and one six. Barbadian Braithwaite resumes with him on 25 slammed from 45 balls and spiced with two sixes and a four.

Earlier West Indies lost Chandrika for 10, other opener Kraigg Brathwaite for 21 (64 balls), Marlon Samuels for a run-a-ball 19 (two fours and one six), Jermaine Blackwood for ne from seven balls, Denesh Ramdin for a ten-ball duck and captain Jason Holder for 26 from 34 balls.

Those in the pavilion are bowlers Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel and not playing from the squad are Shane Dowrich, Shay Hope and bowlers Jerome Taylor and Jomel Warrican.

The West Indies would want to come out of this match with valuable on-the-field time as first Test starts in nine days time against a team ranked second in the world – they down below in eighth.
