Calls for A Public database to Be Created for Monitoring Constituencies’ Expenditure

NEWS GRAPHIC 7A suggestion is made for parliament to consider setting up a public database where money allocated to constituency offices can be monitored by citizens.

Political Analyst, Rishi Maharaj, made the proposal on Power 102.1fm this week.

He was at the time commenting on the recent controversy surrounding the hiring of relatives at constituency offices.

Mr. Maharaj said creating a system where citizens can follow the spending of state resources to members of parliament will help improve transparency and ensure accountability.

Mr Maharaj noted that the development also points the need for Integrity Commission to get involved.
