Concerns growing about the livelihood of fishermen at Guayaguayare

There are concerns about the livelihood of fishermen at Guayaguayare and environs being affected following a suspected gas leak off Point Galeota on Sunday.

Officials at the National Gas Company are probing the matter.

In a News Power Authority interview this afternoon, President of the La Savanne\ New Lands Village Council, Elias Hyndman, explained NGC representatives met Monday with villagers and other stakeholders during a meeting at the Guayaguayare Community Centre.

However, Mr. Hyndman said matters relating to compensation were not agreed upon but the energy company assured it will continue to probe the source of the leak and why it happened.

Mr. Hyndman said the development will have an impact on the fishing sector since they have been advised by the experts to stay away from the area for the time being.
