According to Jones P. Madeira, Manager of the Information and Protocol Division of the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago, Justice Kangaloo, passed away at hospital around 1:40 Friday morning.
Reportedly from complications sustained in an accident he was involved in, in May 2012. On that morning, Mr. Kangaloo was one of several persons injured in the accident.
Kangaloo, accompanied by two members of his security detail were heading east along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, in the vicinity of Trincity in a Toyota Prado when a motor vehicle, travelling in the opposite direction, crossed the median and slammed head on into his vehicle.
The then acting Chief Justice and two police officers in the Prado were taken to the Arima District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Medical Complex where he underwent emergency surgery. Later, he went overseas for treatment, where he stayed for a very long period before returning to Trinidad.
In that May 20th accident, the four occupants of the other motor vehicle died at the scene of the accident.
