Earl Crosby, the owner of popular music outlet, Crosby’s Music Centre in St. James has died.
The businessman and cultural activist passed away on Wednesday at around 4 pm.
65 year old Crosby had been ailing with pancreatic cancer and had been warded at the Vitas House Hospice for the last week.
Crosby’s niece, comedienne Nikki Crosby, said her uncle discovered he had cancer in January and broke the news to the family on Ash Wednesday.
She said his mother also died from pancreatic cancer and her uncle was dedicated to getting check ups annually to ensure that his health was good.
She said up to last year, he was given a clean bill of health.
She said the cancer was aggressive and although Crosby had surgery in February, he deteriorated quickly.
Crosby’s music store was one of the few that was dedicated to selling local music. The former music producer was also known for his outspoken nature on issues such as music piracy and quotas for local content.
Crosby would have celebrated his 66th birthday on August 12.
Crosby’s funeral will be held next Wednesday at St Finbar’s Church at a time to be announced.
