The Downtown Owners and Merchants Association says it supports the maintenance of law and order by police and soldiers in the Beetham Gardens.
In a statement, D.O.M.A insisted no one should be allowed to obstruct active highways, and condemned the hurling of rocks and missiles at the protective services.
However, the business group expressed concern regarding the level of force which was used, describing it as excessive given the unarmed residents, many of whom were teenage boys and girls.
On Sunday, Beetham resident Christopher Greaves was fatally shot by police in the area.
D.O.M.A admits it does not understand the stresses which police officers and soldiers face in carrying out their duties, but from history returning violence with greater violence only multiplies violence.
