The trial of a 74-year-old man, who caused the deaths of five people including a nine year old, is carded to begin on May 21.
The accused man identified as, truck driver, Balton Barnwell reappeared in court on Monday to answer the charges in the First Court before Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie, who set the trial date.
Barnwell of Fyzabad is charged with causing the deaths of nine year old Sachin Maharaj, 12 year old, Sachin Singh, 15 year old Rajkumar Deonarine, 22 year old Rishi Ramlogan, and 37 year old Rajesh Ramnarine by dangerous driving.
The accident occurred on August 15, 2009 near Mosquito Creek, La Romaine.
The five victims and 14 others, of South Oropouche, were passengers in a panel van and were on their way to the Balls of Fire cricket and football charity match at the Queen’s Park Oval, in Port-of-Spain.
The accused truck driver, whose Driver’s Permit had been taken away by the court, is on $500,000 bail.
