Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, two of Trinidad and Tobago’s three star-rated cricketers in the current Indian Premier League T20 championship, have tried to quieten the noise around their physical clash’ in last Saturday’s Gujarat Lions vs Mumbai Indians match in Kanpur.
After Bravo picked up the ball mid-pitch from Pollard’s defensive shot to the rising ball, Bravo continued running up the wicket toward Pollard who had his bat raised as if to tell Bravo stop. But Bravo bumped into Pollard’s cocked elbow with his upper chest before turning around almost immediately to return to his bowling mark.
Bravo was however later fined 50 per cent of his match fee by the match referee who termed his action a breach of the Code of conduct relating to physical contact.
But both Bravo and Pollard have termed the incident regular banter and nothing more.
Bravo took to Twitter to clear the air and state that it is being blown out of proportion by some sections.
Calm down everybody, Bravo tweeted. Kieron Pollard and I are best friends on and off the field. Pity that normal banter is being shaped to suit agendas.
He then added a picture of the duo from their time during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)..
I’s never that serious. Forever #champion brothers, Bravo added.
On his part, Pollard tweeted, “Ridiculous outcome…!! Again I have seen worst happen, obscenities used no outcome but @DJBravo47 fined.
In a 2012 eliminator match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, following Bravo’s dismissal of Pollard, he, Bravo walking close to Pollard made an unflattering gesture towards Pollard, showing him the take-off of a plane with his hands to mean Pollard was to catch the next flight home.
And Pollard whose defending champions Mumbai Indians team lost Saturday’s match by six wickets and were knocked out of continuing in the competition repeated the tweet.
Pollard scored 9 runs including a six from 11 balls in Mumbai’s 172 for 8, Bravo taking two of the wickets at a cost of 22 runs from his four-over spell.
And Bravo was not required to bat as his Lions team won at 173 for 4 from 17 overs and three balls – the win cementing down in the top four for the finals starting today with the Lions versus Chris Gayle’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad meet Sunil Narine’s Kolkata Knight Riders in the other semifinal.
Meanwhile Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Shane Watson has been reprimanded for use of offensive language.
Apart fro Bravo and Barbdian Dwayne Smith and Jamican Chris Gayle, today’s IPL pre-final first elimination game spotlights the brilliant Virat Kohli, pacer Stuart Binny of the Bangalore team and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja of the Lions, three of the 17 players named by India cricket selectors yesterday for the upcoming four-match Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
The India squad – Virat Kohli (captain), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Stuart Binny.
