The East Port of Spain Development Company, which falls under the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development has been mandated to develop and redevelop the East Port of Spain area, to improve economic, social and physical conditions.
This was announced by Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, on Thursday, as she listed a number of measures to break the cycle of violence in the area.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said several hundred persons have gained employment on some 26 projects valued at $25,065,958, between 2012-2013, which have positively impacted the lives of persons in communities including; Upper Belmont, Morvant, Eastern Quarry, Beetham Gardens, Sea Lots and John John.
The Prime Minister said 12 projects were completed in 2012, and this year, 14 were in progress.
She added her Government was considering several proposals put forward for sustainable employment and community training programmes for school dropouts and unqualified youths.
