There is a proposal from the Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean to help assist regional countries facing debt relief challenges.
The idea is to get the outstanding monies placed in a special fund that can be utilized in emergency situations for Caribbean states.
Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley made public the ECLAC recommendation during a media briefing held at the Piarco International Airport on Wednesday.
Dr Rowley noted that the suggestion will be raised when CARICOM leaders meet in the next two months in Grenada.
The Prime Minister pointed out that most regional economies are adversely affected when incidents such as natural disasters hit or others experience significant decline in income from major revenue sources.
