The Steel Workers Union has said they are not accepting ArcelorMittal’s claims that the company had incurred losses since 2009, which subsequently led to the company being forced to close its Point Lisas plant on Friday.
The union says the company’s move was a way to wash its hands of its obligations to workers.
Weighing in on the issue; Former Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Mariano Brown this morning said the company’s plan of action was strategic and carefully thought out.
The economist went on to say that ArcelorMittal used the workers as pawns in the scheme of things, which was turned into an unfortunate situation.
