Education Minister Maintains, UTT Staff Remain Employed with No Immediate Plans to Retrench Them.

Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, says at this point in time no decision has been taken concerning retrenching workers at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, says at this point in time no decision has been taken concerning retrenching workers at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

Minister Garcia gave the update at a news briefing Wednesday afternoon following discussions today with Senior Executives of the Ministry of Education, UTT and the Oilfield Workers Trade Union.

The UTT delegation comprised of its Chairman, Professor Kenneth Julien and Vice Chairman, Professor Clement Imbert and other members of the UTT Board of Directors.

OWTU President General, Ancel Roget led his nine member delegation to the talks.

Minister Garcia said discussions are scheduled to continue on December 6th at 9am.

He added that discussions took place on the contracting of some of the services at the institution but no decision has been made on the way forward.

However, Mr Roget said there is need for more details on how workers will be affected under a restructured UTT.
