The ongoing spate of gang-related activities plaguing communities of Duncan Street, Port of Spain and environs will be discussed at an emergency meeting convene by Housing Minister and Acting Attorney General, Dr Roodal Moonilal today…
At 11am the meeting is scheduled to take place at the HDC Clifton Towers, St Paul Street, Port of Spain (next to the Besson Street Police Station).
An HDC statement indicated National Security Minister, Emmanuel George, Deputy Police Commissioner, Mervyn Richardson, Member of Parliament Marlene Mc Donald , HDC Board of Directors Chairman, Rabindra Moonan and HDC Managing Director, Jearleen John are expected to participate in the discussion.
The release said among the issues to be discussed is the impact of the inner-city community clashes on legitimate HDC tenants.
Also on the agenda is the issue of violation/ breach of HDC Tenancy Agreements.
In an interview yesterday, Minister Moonilal said criminal element were invading the rental units and illegally evicting bona fide HDC clients.
He said this has not happened before. “We have had illegal occupancy issues but never people throwing out legitimate tenants and taking over the unit.”
