A pistol and a magazine, which were reported stolen earlier this month, were recovered by officers of the Northern Division Special Investigations Unit during an anti-crime exercise, in the St. Joseph district.
The 76-year-old robbery victim, of Valsayn South, reported to police that at around 3pm, on January 18TH he was robbed at gunpoint outside him home by a lone gunman.
The bandit escaped with the victim’s Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle, licensed Smith and Wesson firearm, a magazine containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a mobile phone and $1600 cash.
The vehicle was recovered later that day, at Bamboo Settlement #1, Valsayn.
Following investigations and acting on information, an exercise spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.), Michael Daniel and supervised by Insp. Robert Joseph, of the NDSIU, was conducted between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, on Tuesday.
During the exercise, the officers proceeded to a basketball court at Wharf Trace, St. Joseph. A search of the area resulted in a silver coloured Smith and Wesson pistol and an empty magazine being found hidden inside a discarded refrigerator.
No arrest was made in connection with the find.
