Fish vendors at the wharf in San Fernando are calling on their Member of Parliament Faris-Al-Rawi to intervene in what they say is the mayor’s failure to deal with their issues.
Members of the Fish Vendors’ Association say they have made complaints to San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello on numerous occasions and accuse him of making empty promises.
The vendors staged a protest earlier today and made a call on the San Fernando West MP to intervene and to listen to their concerns.
President of the Association Neil Khan says vendors also fear for their lives as there is no police presence at the wharf.
Mr Khan also noted that toilet facilities are deplorable and fishermen have nowhere to offload their catch as the waterfront needs dredging.
According to Mr Khan they show up every day because they have no choice.
