Former Minister of Community Development and UNC Mayaro candidate Winston “Gypsy” Peters heard rumors that his seat was brought from under him

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102.1fm this morning, Mr. Peters commented that a payment of 5 million dollars may have been made for his former seat.

Mr. Peters said that he however, dismissed the rumors and believed in Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar

The Former Minister said that he was one of the persons instrumental in getting Jack Warner’s support for Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in her response to former minister, Winston “Gypsy” Peters, resignation said she wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.

Peters resigned as Minister of Community Development and member of the United National Congress.

He was rejected by the UNC’s screening committee, which the Prime Minister heads, to defend the Mayaro constituency in the September 7 general election. Businessman Rushton Paray was selected to contest the seat.

Persad-Bissessar briefly responded to questions from the media on Peters’s resignation yesterday following a march against domestic violence by the Network of Women Non-Governmental Organizations headed by Hazel Brown.

Asked if she had received his resignation letters, the Prime Minister said she had been out all morning and she did not yet see the letters.
