The government claims it has been able to save over one billion dollars despite falling oil prices globally.
Speaking at a political meeting in Sangre-Grande on Wednesday night , Prime Minister , Kamla Persad Bissessar, said the development demonstrates the ability of the coalition administration to properly manage the country affairs amid serious challenges.
She also dismissed allegations that the government has engaged in discrimination and victimization and defended the composition her election line -up candidates.

Still on the political front Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is defending the town hall meeting held by her government during its general election campaign.
Speaking with reporters after being questioned on the matter this week in Tobago, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said the town hall approach has allowed her and other members of her government the opportunity to meet one and one with citizens to hear their views, concerns and input.
She described the venture as a success.
The Prime Minister also claimed that she is now in possession of evidence of vandalism of election material such as posters belonging to the United National Congress, a situation that has been relayed to to the police.
She also expressed confidence that the People’s partnership will do well in the sister isle at the poll.
