Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has proclaimed a limited state of emergency in this country, effective midnight Sunday… at crime hotspots.
In an emergency media briefing on Sunday night the Prime Minister alongside her cabinet members, said one of the main reasons for this action is a result of the recent spate of murders.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar added that curfews in crime ridden areas will come into effect from Monday.
Members of the Military are expected to boost the security initiatives taken and will be granted along with search and seizure, the power to arrest.
The Prime Minister revealed that mechanisms are in place should criminal elements want to migrate from their hotspots.
She added that a gun amnesty will also be established since one o the majors tasks is to rid the country of illegal guns.
