Guardian photographer, Christian De Silva is today saying he’s concerned after reading a report in the Express Newspaper yesterday that someone felt that they had the right to knock him down with their vehicle. He says he has been in the media for some 16 years and this should have been a routine assignment.
De Silva said he and a reporter were told to seek an interview with Mr. Baksh at A&V Oil and Gas compound in Penal and that’s what they attempted to do. He said they were directed to go down a road to get information on their story, to which he enquired whether or not it was a private road. He said he was told it was not.
De Silva said they went to a building and the reporter knocked on the door, however they received no reply and made the decision to leave.
De Silva said that it was when he decided to take some pictures, things went awry.
He said that while this occurred he was blindsided by another man who also attacked him.
He also revealed that his glasses were destroyed by the individual responsible for the initial attack.
