Finance Minister Colm Imbert says the Tobago ferry woes may soon be over with the purchase of a brand new passenger vessel to service the sea-bridge.
Minister Imbert refuted claims that the ferry was already used and compared prices of the existing T&T Express and T&T Spirit which were 10 and 3 years old respectively.
However, Former Transport Minister, Devant Maharaj, revealed that in late 2017, six tenders were submitted for the acquisition of an inter-island ferry to service the route between Trinidad and Tobago.
According to an article in the Sunday Guardian, tender submissions were received from:
- Get Away Cruises Limited
- Ocean Star Shipping Limited
- Bridgemans Services Group LP
- Paragon Protection Consultants Limited
- Fortune Maritime LLC
- Seajets Maritime Company
This was disclosed to Mr. Maharaj on Friday in a letter sent to him by the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago’s designated officer, Daffodil Maxwell.
Maxwell was responding to a Freedom of Information request made by attorney Douglas Bayley, on behalf of Maharaj, which was sent on December 6th, 2017.
The PATT considered the request for information, in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act Chap 22:02.
