Government is seeking to get the parliament’s approval to increase borrowing capacity from fifteen to twenty percent.
Minister in the Ministry of Finance Allyson West, indicated the intention as she moved the Finance Bill 2017 in the Senate.
She said the move was necessary to help the government address the decline in revenue being experienced at this time.
This will be done she noted through the use of temporary advances from the Central Bank to satisfy its financial obligations.
Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate Wade Mark, wanted to know why did the government not make this move during the Budget presentation in early October.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar, also addressed the issue at her party’s Monday Night Forum in Debe.
She said the latest development indicates a level of desperation on the part of the administration.
