Unemployed La Brea residents continue to protest in front of the Labidco Industrial Estate as they are demanding jobs at the new Methanol Plant being constructed in the area. Among these residents are contactors, tradesmen and labourer who are claiming that they are being bypassed by head contractor Mitsubishi Heavy Industries limited MHI.
In an interview with the Power Breakfast Show this morning resident Martin Watson detailed the reason for protestors’ discontentment with how they are being treated.
He stated that the project is now in its initial stages but soon large scale construction will begin. Protest action has been ongoing for approximately sixteen (16) days now and residents are pleading with MHI to utilize labour from within the community before seeking contractors from outside the area.
