Local contractors are claiming that they can no longer hold strain for outstanding money owed to stand by the state.
They are complaining that money amounts to over two billions of dollars.
Joint Consultative Council for the Construction Industry Founder, Emile Elias, raised the development today.
Mr Elias was speaking at the media briefing today held in Port of Spain.
He explained that the situation continues to adversely affect the contractors and the industry.
Meanwhile, Contractors Association of Trinidad and Tobago President, Mickey Joseph, suggested that legislation measures be taken to ensure that the interest of contractors and the sector are not taken advantage off.
The government has assured that it will pay money owned to contractors but added that the necessary back ground checks for work done must be carried out to ensure accountability.
