A post-mortem is expected to be performed at the St James Forensic Science Centre today, on the body of a Tacarigua man who attempted to stop another man from beating a woman outside a bar in Malabar on Saturday morning.
According to Police, at around 5.30 a.m. on Saturday, 50 year old Alston Hamlet was leaving the Pro Sports Bar along Malabar Branch Road, when he observed an argument between a man and a woman in a car.
Hamlet of Valley Trace Tacarigua approached the car and told the man about his behaviour toward the woman.
The man then came out and began arguing with Hamlet.
Another man joined the argument and both men began beating Hamlet about the body.
As Hamlet lay on the ground, the first man walked to his car and retrieved a gun, then approached Hamlet and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly.
The two men and the woman then fled the scene.
Arima CID officers along with Crime Scene Unit investigators later arrived and, after retrieving evidence, the body was moved to the Port of Spain Mortuary.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
