Amid the devastation to Haiti in the wake Hurricane Matthew, San Fernando Mayor Alderman Haji Kazim Hosein is expressing the desire of the San Fernando City Council to lend assistance as far as possible.
In a media release, the Mayor says that Trinidad and Tobago has been lucky thus far with regard to natural disasters.
However he says that our Caribbean neighbors have consistently been affected and Trinidad and Tobago have an obligation to assist.
Hurricane Mathews he notes, was the most powerful hurricane in nearly a decade and has once again left thousands of people displaced in Haiti.
Given the situation in Haiti, the Mayor and San Fernando City Council have convened a committee to coordinate a relief effort wherein clothing, food, dry goods and supplies will be collected and sent to Haiti to assist in restoration efforts.
The relief committee consisting of SFCC staff and all council members as ex official members have been in discussions to work out the logistics of this effort and will advise the public on drop-off locations and hours in a follow up message and via social media.
