There has been a call for joint police/soldier patrols in the Central Division.
This follows seven murders that took place over the weekend in the Central Division and two that followed on Monday.
Member of Parliament for Couva North Ramona Ramdial has stated that residents in the area are under siege.
She has called on the National Security Minister retired Major Edmond Dillon to do something soon to deal with the present crime situation.
She made the comments in an interview this morning.
She said that while she has communicated with the National Security Minister on the issue and he has been very cordial the situation calls for immediate action.
She said that the violence that has gripped the Central Division has been due to a combination of gang warfare and domestic abuse situation.
She revealed that since the departure of Inspector Johnny Abraham WHO WAS THE HEAD OF THE Central Division, the safety of residents seemed to have suffered.
She said that he instilled some measure of fear in criminals in the area and this helped to stem the crime situation.
