The number of confirmed cases of the Zika virus now stands at 215.
The Ministry of Health gave the confirmation at a media conference at its Park Street, Port of Spain Head office today, following consultation with the Caribbean Public Health Agency.
Four of the cases are from Tobago.
Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, also urged pregnant women who wish to test for the Zika virus to visit public health institutions.
Meanwhile, Chikungunya cases stand at 5, while dengue cases to date stand at 25.
The Ministry is encouraging citizens to follow these steps to prevent infection of themselves and their loved ones.
Meanwhile, Head of the Mt Hope Women’s Hospital Dr Karen Sohan confirmed that two babies have been born with the Zika virus and they are in good health so far.
Dr Sohan also commented on the topic of abortion being done on pregnant women with the Zika virus.
