Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles says the PNM must step up to the plate and do what is necessary to ensure that students of the Cowen Hamilton Secondary school receive a better education environment.
He is also calling on Junior Education Minister Dr. Lovell Francis to resign because of what he says is the minister’s inept handling of problems arising from the recent closure of the school due to poor air quality, skin rashes and itching experienced over a period of time by students and teachers.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning, Mr. Charles said he has a problem with how the Baptist community has been treated.
He said the Cowen Hamilton Secondary school is this country’s premier Baptist secondary school, noting that while the school’s examination statistics have been exemplary, the school is not outfitted with an auditorium, a gymnasium or a computer lab.
Mr. Charles said at the very minimum the solution is to construct a dedicated wing that will provide modern classrooms and state of the art facilities at the school.
He also said a modern gymnasium is important to provide educational balance for the students at the Cowen Hamilton Secondary school.
Up to news-time Effort to contact Dr Francis proved futile.
