The National Trade Union Center is hoping that the recommendations on the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme or GATE do not hamper the majority of students who benefit from it.

Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, explains that the GATE proposals are still being reviewed by the cabinet and in due course will be made public.

NATUC points out that the GATE programme was set up to balance the scales and allow all to access tertiary level education.

It adds for a lot of young citizens, this is their only means of their attainting a Degree and taking themselves out of the poverty line.

General Secretary of NATUC, Michael Annisette, in  a News Power Now interview this afternoon said all should be done to minimize hardship to students who are GATE beneficiaries.
