The Trinidad and Tobago Debates Commission says the Congress of the People will not be allowed to take part in the upcoming debates on local government reform and representation as an individual political party.
T.T.D.C. Commissioner, Angela Persad, in a News Power Now interview on Monday said the C.O.P. was part of the People’s Partnership and the coalition will be represented by one leader at the debates to be held on Thursday October 10th and Tuesday October 15th.
She confirmed the Commission held talks with C.O.P. officials on the matter.
Ms. Persad said the C.O.P. also gave recommendations which it felt should be considered to help lift the standard and quality of the debates.
The COP had criticized the T.T.D.C. for its decision to exclude the party from the local government debates.
T.T.D.C. says political parties who contest less than 75 percent of the seats will not be allowed to take part in the debates.
