There is word today that the contract with the Ocean Flower has been cancelled.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan.
The reason being given is failure to comply with contractual arrangements namely the late arrival of the vessel.
Mr. Sinanan is today saying that he is confident that proper procedure and due diligence were followed in the selection of the vessel.
He said because there was a clause in the contract that allowed for the termination of the contract if the vessel failed to arrive on time, there would be no cost to tax payers.
The Minister underscored that this development does not signal a crisis within the inter-island service.
Meanwhile President of the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union, Michael Annisette is saying that reasons being given for the termination of the contract don’t add up.
He questioned the decision to send representatives to inspect the vessel when the stated issue was the vessel’s late arrival.
