Members of the National Security Council, including the Attorney General, Minister of National Security, Commissioner of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, advised on a current status of the persons taken into custody, along with other related dynamics. As at 8:00a.m. today, one hundred and seventeen persons [ 117] were taken into custody, 56 of which are related to gangs, 48 related to narcotics, 4 related to possession of illegal firearms, 1 related to homicide, and 8 others related to other serious crimes. Illegal Firearms and ammunition were also seized during the time period. Members of the Defence Force have also intensified operations, with upgraded air patrol surveillance.
Attorney General, The Honourable Anand Ramlogan took the opportunity to thank the citizenry for their provision of community based intelligence and urged members of the general public to continue to collaborate with the members of the protective services and defence force to ensure that the current measures continue to be effective. The AG also advised of a National Hotline being established within the next 24 hours and the public will be appraised.
The public is reminded that the curfew continues in effect from 9:00p.m. to 5:00a.m. and are requested to continue to operate within the confines of the law.
