A Laventille man is today in police custody assisting officers with their investigations into the murder of taxi driver and a school boy.
Dead are 15-year Joshua Andrews and taxi driver Devon Hernandez.
Police reports indicate that the suspect was held near the scene of the double killing and was taken to the Morvant Police Station where he was questioned last night. His homes were later searched.
Reports state that at approximately 3 pm, two gunmen opened fire on a gold coloured Nissan Almera driven by Hernandez in the vicinity of Pelican Extension, Trou Macaque, Laventille. Police believe he was the intended target of the gunmen.
Andrews, who was in the front passenger seat and Hernandez were shot multiple times.
The vehicle burst into flames and both front seat passengers were badly burnt.
Hernandez, a PH driver was transporting three children of the Morvant Laventille Secondary School when he was attacked by the men.
The two schoolboys who were in the back seat, were also shot. Police said one was shot in the face, and the other in his hand, severing one of his fingers.
Police said Hernandez was believed to have been somehow involved in the murder of Andrei Pereira, who was killed on Sunday night a few feet away from where his car crashed.
