This is the question asked by one Opposition MP yesterday in the parliament. Christine Newallo – Hosein had echoed the sentiments of President of the Trinidad Unified Farmers Association, Sheraz Khan who, speaking with Power 102.1FM’s Tony Frasier earlier this week, said this country’s food import bill continues to escalate.
The Cumuto-Manzanilla MP said she does not understand the government’s logic in their disbursement of funds.
The Agriculture sector stakeholder this week said a 7% tax on online shopping would not return the $1 billion dollars wanted by the government.
Separately, Khan also made a plea for proper agriculture storage to be provided to farmers.
Yesterday, during the Opposition’s budget response, Mrs. Christine Newallo-Hosein said the government could not be trusted and argued that farmers would be affected by the 15% diesel price increase
