More than four hundred people have filed nominations to represent the United National Congress (UNC) in the Local Government Elections scheduled to be held this year. Nominations closed at 4:00 pm Sunday May 15, 2016.

This is according to a media release sent out by the party.

It stated that in preparation for the elections, the Honorable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC, Leader of the UNC, announced in April the opening of nominations for persons seeking to represent the Party at the Local Government level.

Since then there has been a steady stream of applications from UNC Members throughout Trinidad desirous of contesting these Elections.

The UNC the release said was pleased with the heightened interest in the party, which has resulted in the large number of prospective candidates.

It revealed that the party would immediately begin its rigorous in-house evaluation procedures with a view to commencing the screening of candidates shortly.
