Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley intends to bring the issue of self-governance for Tobago to the Parliament by next year.
Speaking at Thursday’s Post Cabinet media briefing, Dr Rowley says that he believes Tobago has earned the rights for the discussion on self-governance to be had.
He indicated that while a document exists on the matter, the Cabinet is yet to finalize a position on the issue.
He adds that while no solution to the issue has yet been found, he is hopeful that by 2018 the matter can be discussed at a Parliamentary level.
Dr. Rowley also reiterated that the passage of this bill among others was a key reason why he moved Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds to the Ministry of the Attorney General. Mr Hinds has an educational background which includes specialization in constitutional law.
