Police and Social Welfare Association not too pleased with old rule by the Judiciary where officers are not allowed to have their service weapons inside the courts

The Judiciary said it is baffled that police officers yesterday refused to adhere to an old court rule and chose instead not to enter the Arima Magistrates’ Court because they were not allowed to take their service weapons inside.

President of the Police and Social Welfare Association, Insp. Anand Ramasar speaking on whether or not police officers should be allowed to keep his firearm while in the courts said that officers will be disarmed while on duty.

Ramasar said the law provides for the officer to be responsible for carrying their firearm while on duty and explains why it is important.
