The Police Officer who was shot in the head by a would be bandit has died.
Anson Benjamin died at 11:15 AM,today at ICU, San Fernando General Hospital
Benjamin, 42, of Pleasantville, an officer with over 15 years service, remained unconscious in the Intensive Care Unit of San Fernando General Hospital yesterday. He underwent a CT Scan on Monday night and doctors said there was severe brain damage and therefore, could not operate or remove the bullet at the time, but more tests are expected to be done.
A report stated that Ste Madeleine police got a report that the owners of Chao Yong Supermarket saw on their Closed Circuit Television System, two men lurking at the back the building at the corner of the Naparima/Mayaro Road and Allamby Street, St Clement. Responding to the report around 8.30, Benjamin and a Woman Police Constable went to the back of the building where one of the suspects, upon seeing the officers, immediately fired a shot at the officers. Benjamin was struck in the head and the gunmen escaped into bushes at the back of the compound while the other officer took cover.
