Minister of State in the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development Senator Raziah Ahmed revealed yesterday that education had to remain the focal point for girls who became pregnant in Primary schools.
She made the statement in response to questions by the media on allegations made over the weekend by the National Parent Teachers Association about pregnant students.
Ahmed delivered the feature address yesterday at the first in a series of three stakeholders consultations on the establishment of a National Commission for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equity at the City Hall in San Fernando.
She stated that her Ministry would work in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to investigate those reports as fully as they could.
She claimed that children who found themselves in those circumstances, had to continue their education, so they had to find ways and means of ensuring that, in order so they could take better care of their children and ensure a family unit that was sustainable and healthy.
