Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar to return to this country around midday after being discharged from hospital in Barbados

Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has been released from a Barbados hospital and is expected to return to the country today.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar was taken from the Barbados Hilton hotel just outside the country’s capital to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she underwent a “battery of tests” after falling ill yesterday.

She was discharged last night.

60 year old Persad Bissessar had attended the Mexico-CARICOM Summit with other CARICOM leaders and Mexican President Felipe Calderon in Barbados.

Acting Prime Minister Jack Warner spoke to the Prime Minister yesterday and gave an update.

Prime Minister Persad Bissessar is expected to return to this country around midday.

Last August, she was stricken with mosquito-borne dengue fever, but carried on working from her home office under medical supervision.

And in September of 2010 she was admitted to the St Clair Medical Center where it was revealed that she is suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

Meanwhile Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley says he is hoping that the Prime Minister has a speedy recovery.

In an interview yesterday Dr. Rowley said he hopes Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s illness was nothing too serious.

In describing the Prime Minister’s hospitalization as surprising Dr. Rowley said he wants to join with the rest of the country in wishing her well.
