Reports of a raid quickly circulated, however, a press Release from SM Jaleel sought to refute the rumors.
The release stated that around 1 pm armed men entered the compound and fired shots at security officers on the roof of the building.
The officers, from Allied Security, were said to have taken cover while the bandits fired sporadically for about five minutes.
The police were immediately contacted and the Inter-Agency Task Force responded within five minutes. Upon the arrival of the lawmen the gunmen fled the scene, into the surrounding hillside.
The company wishes to make it clear that the property was not raided by the police as is being inaccurately reported.
SM Jaleel has been highlighted in the media recently, as tins similar to those used by the Trinidad Juice Company, were part of a multi-million dollar drug bust in the US.
Officials from the US Drug Enforcement Agency are currently in Trinidad conducting investigations into the origin of the drugs.
