Six month old baby among 4 killed in tragic Road Accidents…

NEWS GRAPHIC 15A six-month-old baby tragically lost her life in a car accident on Friday. Little Monisa died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, shortly after attempts to save her life.

Police reports indicate that at about 8.28 pm, Monisa, her father Kenneth Rampersad and her twin brother Imani were driving in Sangre Grande when their vehicle collided with a Toyota station wagon.

Baby Monisa underwent emergency treatment and was transferred to EWMSC but died shortly after arriving at the Mt Hope facility.

Snr Supt Sacenarine Mahabir, head of the Eastern Division, yesterday appealed to drivers to be more cautious and show courtesy to each other on the roads.

A Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, his fiancée and  a Gardener lost their lives in a road accident in Chaguanas. Reports from the Chagunanas Fire Station indicate that the incident took place around 6:25 Sunday morning.

Gardener Jagdeo Heeralal was headed to his garden in St Augustine, when a car driven by Coast Guard member Phillip Baptiste crossed the median of the highway and crashed into his.

Police reports state that Heeralal, 55, was driving a Hyundai H-100 van along the north-bound lane. Baptiste, 33, was driving along the south-bound lane in a Skoda Octavia, with his fiancée Frieda Bonyun in the passenger seat.

Heeralal and Baptiste were killed almost instantly at the scene. Bonyun died while receiving emergency treatment at hospital.

According to reports the family of Gardener Heeralal stated that they were informed that the Coast guard and his fiancée were on their way home from attending a party when the accident occurred.

The family called on persons to avoid drinking and driving. Relatives of Heeralal also lamented the absence of barriers and call fr the implementation of such in the area where the accident occurred.

They also called for greater police presence on the Nation’s road.
